6th Grade C Discovers the Science Behind the Magic of Harry Potter

As the reading experience connected to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets continues across 6th grade, students from 6th grade C took part in a new session that brought together literature, mystery, creativity, and a simple scientific experiment inspired by the story.
The activity was developed during the Spanish Language subject from the Junior Area, guided by Ms Daniela Araya, in articulation with the English Immersion Plan, led by Mr Marcos Riveros. In this experience, the connection was developed through one of the important lines of the plan: the connection with literature as part of students’ cultural development. Through a well-known English-language literary work, the activity allowed students to approach the reading process from a wider perspective, connecting the novel with science, imagination, and the world behind the text.
During the session, students revisited important elements from the chapters they had already read, recalling characters, events, and mysteries that gradually shape the story. This helped them reconnect with the novel and prepare for one of the most memorable moments of the activity: a STEM experience inspired by Chapter 13, “The Very Secret Diary”.
In this chapter, Hermione Granger tries to reveal a hidden message using the spell “Aparecium”. Taking this moment as inspiration, students explored the idea of invisible ink through a simple experiment, discovering how a secret message can appear through observation, materials, and scientific curiosity. In this way, something that seems magical in fiction became an opportunity to connect literature with experimentation.
One of the most valuable aspects of the activity was the way it invited students to look at the story beyond the plot. The experiment helped them understand that books can open questions connected to different areas of knowledge, including science, creativity, language, and culture. Through this experience, the mystery of the novel became a starting point for observation, discussion, and hands-on learning.
As part of a process already developed with other 6th grade classes, this session allowed students from 6th grade C to participate in a shared reading experience while also giving their own energy and interpretation to the activity. Each class has approached the same literary universe in a slightly different way, showing that reading can become a space for curiosity, participation, and meaningful classroom moments.
Through activities like this, the English Immersion Plan continues to support learning experiences where literature, culture, creativity, and interdisciplinary exploration come together. In this case, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets became a bridge between storytelling and science, reminding students that imagination can also lead us to observe, question, and discover.
