Last week, a group of students from Colegio Concepción embarked on a special educational journey to San Pedro de Atacama, spending five days exploring some of the most remarkable landscapes of northern Chile. From October 19th to 23rd, this experience brought learning beyond the classroom, connecting science, astronomy, geography, natural heritage, and culture in one of the most extraordinary environments in our country.
The group included 43 students from 1st Grade A and C Senior Area, together with members of the Ecobrigade and ICT Extracurricular Class. They were accompanied by Ms. Iowanna Maltés Castillo, Ms. María Patricia Salazar Salamanca, Ms. María Eugenia Muñoz Contreras, and Mr. Marcos Riveros Illanes, who guided and supported them throughout this educational adventure.
The five-day itinerary brought together a variety of experiences across the Atacama Desert. From the extraordinary geological formations of Valle de la Luna to an astronomical tour featuring telescope observation, students had the opportunity to discover the natural and scientific richness of the region. The programme also included the Puritama sector, ALMA, Valle del Arcoíris, Ruta de los Salares, and the impressive Geysers del Tatio, offering different perspectives on the landscapes, ecosystems, and scientific importance of northern Chile.
Beyond visiting these remarkable places, the trip provided an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. Exploring natural environments, discovering more about astronomical research, and encountering the geographical and cultural diversity of the Atacama Desert helped bring different areas of knowledge together. Equally important were the moments of friendship, teamwork, independence, and shared experiences that made this journey meaningful for everyone involved.
One of the special aspects of this adventure was the participation of students from the ICT Extracurricular Class, who took on the challenge of documenting and sharing the experience with our school community. Through interviews, articles, and highlights from the journey, the ICT Team will give readers a closer look at the places visited, the activities carried out, and, most importantly, the voices and experiences of the students who were part of this trip.
Although our five days in San Pedro de Atacama have come to an end, there are still many stories to tell! Over the coming days, we will be sharing a series of articles highlighting different moments of this educational adventure, from scientific discoveries and breathtaking landscapes to memorable experiences and conversations along the way.
Our journey may be over, but the story is just beginning. Stay tuned and discover San Pedro de Atacama through the eyes of our students!
