Exploring India: A Cultural Exchange at the Parvulario

As part of our English Week 2025 celebrations, our Parvulario became the stage for the second cultural exchange of the year, this time dedicated to exploring the richness of Indian culture. This activity gave our youngest learners from Medio Mayor to 2nd grade a chance to immerse themselves in traditions, colours, and experiences from this fascinating country.
In preparation for the exchange, students worked collaboratively on different artistic projects. From panels on Indian traditions created by Medio Mayor to Kinder, to beautifully decorated mandalas painted by 1st and 2nd graders, the whole level contributed to transforming the space into a vibrant celebration of India. On Thursday, August 28th, all these works came together for the Indian Experience Fair, where students explored panels on topics such as traditional clothing, festivities like Diwali and Holi, sacred animals, typical foods and spices, monuments like the Taj Mahal, and traditional music and dance.
Guided by Mr. Marcos, students reflected on different aspects of Indian life, and as part of the experience, they painted a bindi on their foreheads, learning its cultural meaning as a symbol of protection and self-reflection. Each colour had a special message: green for good luck, blue for wisdom, yellow for prosperity, and red as a traditional family sign. To make the exchange even more immersive, students also had the chance to taste Indian tea, connecting them directly with one of the country’s most emblematic traditions.
One of the highlights of the exchange was a children’s yoga session, held in the psychomotricity room and guided by the yoga instructor Noelia Ordenes Castillo. Through simple movements, breathing, and relaxation exercises, the children enjoyed a calm, playful introduction to yoga, a practice strongly rooted in India’s cultural heritage.
The Indian Cultural Exchange was much more than a school activity, it was a joyful opportunity for students to discover another culture while using English as a communicative bridge. Throughout the day, English was present in every stage, helping the children reflect on the fact that it is also one of India’s official languages and a true global connector.
We invite you to check out the photos of this vibrant exchange and celebrate with us the joy of discovering the world through language, culture, and creativity!
