Exploring Irish Culture: A Cultural Exchange in English – Part 1

On March 17, the English Immersion Program launched its first cultural exchange activity of the year at the Early Childhood Education Building (commonly known as Parvulario). This enriching experience introduced students from Medio Mayor to Kinder level to Irish culture, using English as a bridge to explore a country where the language is both first and official.
Throughout the session, students discovered key symbols of Ireland, focusing on the color green and the mythical leprechaun. They engaged with Irish traditions, music, food, and dance, deepening their understanding of a culture that has greatly influenced the English-speaking world. A lively leprechaun-themed song helped reinforce their learning, making the experience both educational and entertaining.
To bring this cultural exchange to life, students crafted their own leprechaun hats and beards, using various creative techniques such as solid paint, crayons, colored pencils, sponge stamping, and paper collage. Each class experimented with different materials, allowing them to personalise their work while engaging in a hands-on learning experience.
This first part of our Irish culture exchange was a wonderful opportunity for students to immerse themselves in English while gaining insight into the traditions of another English-speaking country. And this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for Part 2, where we continue our journey into Irish culture with even more exciting activities.
