What if we could bring a little piece of our school’s natural surroundings to the heart of Concepción? This year, students from Colegio Concepción did just that! Through creativity, teamwork, and a shared appreciation for nature, they brought a new perspective to the 69th Exhibition of Flowers and Plants, organised by the Club de Jardines de Concepción.
Our participation was once again part of Our Native Flora Trail, a long-term institutional project that encourages environmental education and celebrates the biodiversity found within our own school grounds. Led by the ICT Workshop and the Ecobrigade, and guided by Mr. Marcos Riveros, Ms. Iowana Maltés, and Ms. María Patricia Salazar, the initiative brings together different areas of learning to explore, appreciate, and protect our natural environment.
This year’s exhibition offered an exciting opportunity to take the project in a new direction. Rather than simply introducing visitors to our native flora trail through informative displays, students created terrariums featuring native plant species from the trail itself. These miniature environments allowed visitors to discover a small part of the natural beauty found at Colegio Concepción, bringing the richness of our surroundings into a completely different setting.
In other words, this year, we did not just showcase Our Native Flora Trail — we brought a little piece of it to the exhibition!
Behind these creations lies a much broader educational experience. Throughout the development of Our Native Flora Trail, students have explored the importance of native plants, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. The terrariums represent another step in this ongoing journey, transforming what students have discovered about their surroundings into something they can share with the wider community.
An important part of this experience has been the continued involvement of Ms. María Patricia Salazar, who has represented Colegio Concepción at the exhibition for several years. Her dedication and guidance have played a valuable role in maintaining our school’s connection with this community event, encouraging new generations of students to participate and share their work.
The project also reflects the value of interdisciplinary collaboration. Through the ICT Workshop, and the Ecobrigade, students have opportunities to connect environmental awareness with creativity, research, and communication in English. These experiences encourage them to recognise that learning extends beyond the classroom and that the natural environment surrounding our school offers countless opportunities for discovery.
Above all, this year’s participation demonstrates that Our Native Flora Trail continues to grow and evolve. Each new initiative gives us another opportunity to highlight the natural heritage of Colegio Concepción, whether through educational resources, hands-on activities, or creative projects such as these terrariums. Our aim is to continue exploring different ways of bringing our school’s biodiversity closer to students and the community, inspiring greater appreciation for the environment we share.
We warmly congratulate our participating students and the teachers who accompanied them throughout this experience. Their dedication reminds us that sometimes, the best way to encourage people to care for nature is to help them discover the beauty that is already growing around them.
From our school trail to the exhibition, our native flora continues to inspire new ideas, meaningful learning, and a deeper connection with nature.
