Students from Medio Mayor, Pre-Kinder, Kinder, 1st grade, and 2nd grade from the Junior Area participated in a special Friendship Bracelet Activity, a meaningful experience connected to emotions, creativity, friendship, and positive school coexistence.
The activity was coordinated by Mr. Marcos Riveros and Ms. Catalina Maturana, as part of the experiences promoted by the English Immersion Plan and in connection with the institutional areas of Coexistence, Citizenship and Values, and Personal Development. Through this artistic activity, students were invited to express themselves, recognise the value of friendship, and share a symbolic gesture with one of their classmates.
This experience was connected to the previous storytelling session based on The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas, where children explored different emotions through colours. Taking this story as inspiration, students decorated pieces of pasta using colours associated with feelings such as happiness, sadness, calm, fear, anger, and love. In this way, the activity allowed them to connect colour, emotion, and personal expression in a simple and age-appropriate way. After decorating the pieces, students used wool or elastic to create their own friendship bracelets. The process encouraged creativity, fine motor skills, participation, and collaboration, while also giving students the opportunity to talk about colours, emotions, and friendship. Simple English expressions such as “Let’s paint the pasta!”, “What colour do you want?”, and “Let’s make a friendship bracelet!” helped students approach the activity through language in a natural and playful context.
One of the most meaningful moments of the experience was the final exchange of bracelets. Each student gave their bracelet to a classmate as a symbol of friendship, empathy, respect, and good coexistence. This small gesture helped children understand that friendship is built through kindness, care, and the ability to recognise others as important members of the classroom community. Through this activity, students were able to experience English beyond vocabulary repetition, using the language as part of an artistic and emotional learning moment. At the same time, the activity strengthened important values such as respect, generosity, participation, and the joy of sharing with others.
Experiences like this remind us that learning in the early years is deeply connected to emotion, creativity, play, and human connection. Through their friendship bracelets, students created something with their own hands, shared it with a classmate, and celebrated the importance of friendship as part of everyday school life.
