On Thursday, August 21st, our youngest students from Medio Mayor, Pre-Kinder, and Kinder enjoyed a special storytelling session at the Parvulario. The story chosen for this month was The Monkey and the Crocodile, a traditional fable from the Panchatantra, a collection of ancient Indian tales that have travelled the world for centuries, teaching values through animals and everyday adventures.
This session was led by Mia Kreca, together with Ms. Catalina Maturana and Mr. Marcos Riveros, with the support of the Early Childhood Education team. The atmosphere was magical, as children listened attentively to the tale of an unlikely friendship between a monkey and a crocodile, and how trust and cleverness play a role in our relationships.
The story invited children to reflect on the meaning of true friendship: Can friends betray each other? How can we be smart and careful when making choices? Through guiding questions and playful interaction, the students connected with the monkey’s bravery and quick thinking, while also understanding that friendship should be based on kindness and loyalty.
Despite the rainy weather outside, the classrooms were full of warmth, laughter, and curiosity. The children not only enjoyed listening, but also participated actively, acting out expressions and repeating simple English words and phrases that connected them naturally to the language.
This storytelling session reminded us once again how literature is a bridge between cultures —from India to our classrooms— and how timeless tales can nurture imagination, values, and language learning in the most joyful way.
