As part of our school’s World Book Day celebrations, our students, from 3rd and 4th grade high school from the literature elective class, had the chance to step into the world of classic literature through a dynamic and thought-provoking literary debate. This activity, held on April 22nd in the auditorium, was organized by the English Immersion Plan with the collaboration of Ms. Patricia Álvarez from the Spanish Language Department, and aimed to honour and to reflect critically on the great works of literature that have shaped their reading journey in both English and Spanish.
Students worked in teams to explore powerful literary theses inspired by the classics they’ve read throughout the year. From Shakespeare and Cervantes to Kafka and Laura Esquivel, each group took on the challenge of presenting arguments both for and against a given idea—developing their points in both languages. The debate took place in a roundtable format, with students sharing insights, responding to questions, and reflecting on the values, emotions, and social themes embedded in these timeless works. Arguing in both English and Spanish — a true exercise in bilingual expression and literary interpretation.
It was an engaging and inspiring experience that not only celebrated the richness of literature but also strengthened students’ analytical and communication skills.
