3rd Grade C Completes the First Stage of The Odyssey Project

Students from 3rd grade C participated in the final first-session experience of the interdisciplinary project inspired by The Odyssey, completing this initial stage with the three 3rd grade classes. After the sessions with 3rd grade A and 3rd grade B, this final group closed the first part of the journey with its own participation, attention, and enthusiasm.
The activity was developed as part of the Junior Area Music subject, guided by Mr. Rodrigo Vega, and articulated with the English Immersion Plan, led by Mr. Marcos Riveros. Although the experience was carried out within Music, it connected different areas of learning, including History, Geography and Social Sciences, Language and Communication, Music, and English.
During the storytelling session, students entered the world of Ancient Greece and followed Odysseus on his long journey home. Through a map of the Mediterranean, they connected the story with places, routes, sea journeys, and mythological challenges, approaching geography not only as location, but also as part of how ancient stories imagined distance, danger, and adventure.
The narration included important episodes such as Troy, the Lotus Eaters, Polyphemus, Circe, the Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis, and the return to Ithaca. These moments helped students recognise characters, conflicts, settings, and the central idea of homecoming that gives unity to the story.
Music and sound were central to the session. Students created soundscapes for the sea, wind, rowing, storms, danger, magic, and the Sirens, using rhythm, voice, body percussion, dynamics, and silence to support the storytelling. In this way, they experienced how music can help communicate atmosphere, tension, movement, and emotion within a narrative.
The class also participated through the recurring question “What does Odysseus want?” and the response “He wants to go home!” This refrain connected the different parts of the story and helped students understand the hero’s motivation while using English in a simple, memorable, and collective way.
As in the previous sessions, students became Art Detectives by observing historical artworks connected to The Odyssey. They identified gestures, gazes, objects, symbols, character positions, and composition, discovering that visual art can help us understand stories even before words explain them.
With 3rd grade C, the first stage of the project came to a close across 3rd grade A, B and C. Together, the three classes explored The Odyssey through storytelling, English, music, geography, mythology, and art appreciation, preparing the ground for the second part of the project.
The next stage will invite students to step inside the artworks themselves. Through photography, green screen, lighting, poses, expressions, and group composition, they will recreate scenes from The Odyssey and become part of the long artistic journey of this ancient story.
Through this experience, the English Immersion Plan continues to create meaningful interdisciplinary opportunities where English supports learning across different subjects, allowing students to connect culture, creativity, participation, and communication.
