Growing a Greener Future: The Fourth Sustainable Fair Inspires the Colegio Concepción Community on World Environment Day

In celebration of World Environment Day, on Friday, June 5, Colegio Concepción proudly hosted its Fourth Sustainable Fair, reaffirming the school’s commitment to environmental education, sustainable development, and community engagement. The event brought together ecological entrepreneurs from the Biobío Region and representatives from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, creating a dynamic space where sustainability, innovation, and environmental awareness took centre stage.
This year’s fair also marked one of the first major actions developed within the framework of “Sustainable School in Action: Eco-Fairs and Global Awareness through English,” a COEMCO winning teacher innovation project led by Mr. Marcos Riveros Illanes, from the English Immersion Programme, and Ms. Iowanna Maltés Castillo, Biology teacher and member of the Sustainability Committee at Colegio Concepción. The project seeks to strengthen environmental awareness through interdisciplinary learning experiences connected to sustainability, the Sustainable Development Goals, English communication, technology, and community participation.
Organised by the English Immersion Programme, the Ecobrigade, the ICT Extracurricular Class, and the Sustainability Committee of Colegio Concepción, the fair provided students and school staff with the opportunity to explore environmentally responsible products, learn about sustainable initiatives, and discover practical ways to contribute to the protection of the environment.
Throughout the day, attendees visited a variety of stands featuring local entrepreneurs dedicated to ecological practices, circular economy initiatives, recycling, reusable materials, and sustainable production. Their participation showcased creative responses to current environmental challenges and highlighted the importance of supporting businesses that prioritise environmental responsibility. At the same time, the presence of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María enriched the event by offering an academic and technological perspective on sustainability.
Holding the fair on World Environment Day gave special significance to the event. Celebrated around the world, this date encourages individuals and communities to take action in protecting natural resources and promoting a more sustainable future. In this context, the Sustainable Fair became a meaningful reminder that environmental stewardship begins with informed choices, collective responsibility, and everyday actions.
More than an exhibition, the Fourth Sustainable Fair was an educational experience that encouraged reflection, dialogue, and participation. By interacting directly with entrepreneurs, academic representatives, and sustainability advocates, students and staff gained valuable insights into how local initiatives can contribute to global environmental goals.
As part of the COEMCO winning project, this fair also represents an important step in connecting classroom learning with real community action. Through events such as this, Colegio Concepción strengthens environmental awareness, supports sustainable entrepreneurship, and inspires its community to become active agents of change in the pursuit of a greener, more conscious, and more sustainable future.
