Students from 5th grade B at Colegio Concepción participated in an interdisciplinary learning experience that brought together geography, literature, and creativity, inspired by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
The activity was carried out during the Spanish Language class, part of the Elementary Department, led by Ms. Daniela Araya, in collaboration with the English Immersion Program, led by Mr. Marcos Riveros. This experience is part of a series developed across all 5th grade classes, allowing students to engage with the same learning process through shared yet unique classroom experiences.
The session began with a geographical introduction to the British Isles, providing students with the context needed to understand the setting of the story. From there, the activity expanded into a broader exploration of the cultural and geographical elements that shape the narrative.
Through this interdisciplinary approach, the English Immersion Program played a key role in connecting students with the cultural context of an English-speaking country. By engaging with British geography, history, and literature, students experienced English as a meaningful bridge to understanding the world behind the story, reinforcing the value of language through culture and innovation.
Building on this foundation, students worked with the methodology of Social Mapping, a strategy that promotes the visual and collective construction of knowledge. Using maps of the British Isles, they traced the journey from King’s Cross Station in London to Hogwarts in Scotland, reimagining the route through their own creative lens.
As part of the activity, each group designed a “magical train station”, incorporating elements from the story while adding their own ideas. Through names, visual details, and imagined scenarios, students blended geographical understanding with the fantasy world of Harry Potter, transforming the map into a narrative space.
The experience concluded with group presentations, where students shared their creations and explained how their stations connected to the journey of the Hogwarts Express. As a symbolic closing, each student received a Hogwarts Express ticket, allowing them to “travel” the route they had designed and reinforcing the connection between imagination and learning.
Through experiences like this, students are invited to connect disciplines, explore new perspectives, and engage with learning as a creative and meaningful process.
