Real English in the Classroom: A Year of Visits from Our Friend Mia Kreca

This school year, the classrooms of 1st and 2nd grade elementary at Colegio Concepción have been filled with smiles, laughter, and English, thanks to the visits of our dear friend Ms. Mia Kreca, who comes all the way from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Every few weeks, Mia could be found sitting among the students, greeting them cheerfully, and joining in on their daily lessons. Her visits were never separate English classes; instead, she became part of the regular learning routine, visiting different subjects and participating naturally in class activities. Whether it was during Natural Science, Arts, or Maths, Mia added an extra touch of curiosity and excitement by communicating with the children entirely in English.
During her visits, she would ask simple questions, comment on what the class was doing, or share small stories from her country, always encouraging students to answer and express themselves in English. The magic was in the spontaneity: the lessons continued as usual, but suddenly the room became a bilingual space where English flowed naturally and meaningfully.
The children quickly grew fond of her, greeting her with bright smiles and proudly showing how much they could understand. Soon, English stopped being something that belonged only to their English lessons, it became part of their daily life. Each encounter was full of laughter, discoveries, and the joy of learning without fear of making mistakes.
“It’s amazing how comfortable the children are when speaking English” shared Mia. “They’re not afraid of English, they enjoy it.”
These moments are at the heart of what the English Immersion Plan stands for: bringing English to life through real, human connections. The program continues to create opportunities for students to experience English as a living language, one that connects cultures and opens minds.
Mia’s warm presence throughout the year has been a wonderful reminder that language is not just about words, but about friendship, curiosity, and the courage to communicate. We are deeply thankful for her time, kindness, and the many joyful moments she shared with our students, moments that made English come alive in the most natural and meaningful way.
