First Place for Colegio Concepción: A Recognition of Learning, Sustainability, and Innovation

The project “Our Native Flora Trail”, developed at Colegio Concepción as part of an ongoing environmental initiative, has been awarded first place in the school category at the 68th Exhibition of Flowers, Plants, and Floral Designs, organised by the Club de Jardines de Concepción.
This recognition celebrates not just the students’ beautiful exhibition, but the broader vision behind it — a long-term project that connects science, sustainability, and language learning in a meaningful way.
Our Native Flora Trail began as an institutional effort to preserve and reforest the native species surrounding the school’s hill. Over time, it has grown into a collaborative, cross-curricular project that involves students from the ICT Workshop and the Ecobrigade, guided by Ms. María Patricia Salazar, Ms. Iowana Maltés, and Mr. Marcos Riveros. Together, they have transformed observation and care for nature into hands-on learning experiences that combine technology, art, sustainability and English communication.
The project includes a variety of educational actions such as trail visits, seed collection campaigns, digital mapping of biodiversity, and repotting workshops organised in collaboration with the school’s Sustainability Committee. Each stage has strengthened students’ awareness of the importance of native flora and their role as environmental ambassadors within the school community.
This year’s award recognises that sustained effort — the ability to bring learning outside the classroom and turn it into a visible, lasting contribution to both the school and the community. The judges commended the balance between scientific content, creative design, and educational innovation, all presented through bilingual materials prepared by the students.
For Colegio Concepción, this achievement represents more than a prize — it is a testament to the power of education that connects knowledge with purpose. The project embodies the school’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and bilingual immersion, proving that meaningful learning grows stronger when rooted in care for our environment.
Congratulations to all the students, teachers, and collaborators who made this recognition possible — a celebration of learning, teamwork, and love for our native nature.
