Book Launch: Flora de la Región del Biobío

On Thursday, September 4th, the library of Colegio Concepción became the stage for the launch of a remarkable book: Flora de la Región del Biobío. Students from 8th grade A and B, together with members of the Ecobrigada workshop, the ICT workshop, and representatives of the English Immersion Program, gathered to take part in this special event dedicated to the richness of Chilean flora.
This activity was organised by the Sustainability Committee of Colegio Concepción, led by teachers Iowanna Maltés, Débora Valencia, and Claudia Cuevas, who—together with the participating teams—made this enriching experience possible.
The session was led by two distinguished guests: Dr. Carlos Baeza Perry, co-author of the book and Director of the CONC Herbarium, and Alicia Marticorena, co-author and Curator of the Herbarium at the Universidad de Concepción’s Faculty of Natural and Oceanographic Sciences. Their presence brought invaluable expertise, allowing our students to deepen their appreciation for the biodiversity of our region while also understanding the hard work behind a monumental scientific publication.
The event highlighted not only the academic and cultural importance of the book but also the meaningful participation of our students. The Ecobrigada and ICT workshops collaborated in the preparation and coverage of the launch, reinforcing the idea that environmental education, technology, and language immersion can come together to strengthen learning experiences.
We are proud to announce that five copies of Flora de la Región del Biobío will remain in our school library, available for students, teachers, and families to consult. This treasure will serve as both an educational resource and an inspiration for future generations.
We warmly invite our community to explore the book and to check the highlights of this memorable launch. For more information on the publication, you can also visit the Universidad de Concepción’s Faculty of Natural and Oceanographic Sciences page
