An Insightful Interview with the Ecobrigade: Raising Awareness on Wetlands and Environmental Protection

During a recent session, the ICT extracurricular workshop had the opportunity to interview members of the Ecobrigade, who played an essential role in guiding a plogging activity held at the Humedal Desembocadura Río Biobío. The interview, conducted by Tomas Fuentealba from the ICT workshop, allowed students to gain deeper insights into the experiences of the Ecobrigade members and their perspectives on environmental protection.
The Ecobrigade members, including Rafael Toledo, Mateo Morales, Florencia Henriquez, Joaquín Pinto, Leonardo Correa, Javier Ormeño, Benjamin Sáez, and Benjamin Pinto, shared their thoughts on the plogging experience. «It was a very satisfying experience,» said one member. «We saw great order and respect among all the students. We managed to collect a total of 12 bags of litter, and it was impressive to see the cooperation from the group. The team from ‘Más Árboles Menos Basura’ also provided a very unique and engaging dynamic.»
The members of the Ecobrigade were asked about the large amount of trash they encountered during the plogging event. «The amount of trash found in the wetland was incredible,» one member remarked. «What surprised me the most was the lack of awareness from the community about the biodiversity in the wetland. It’s alarming to see things like shoes, clothes, and even cardboard dumped in such a sensitive area.»
When asked if activities like plogging should have more visibility, the Ecobrigade members unanimously agreed. «It’s crucial to raise awareness,» said one student. «The pollution affects not just the people living near the wetland, but the entire ecosystem. Activities like plogging can help highlight the importance of keeping our environment clean.»
Reflecting on the need for ongoing awareness and action, one member emphasized, «It’s essential to protect our wetlands. The pollution is a direct result of our lack of care for public spaces. Keeping these places clean is key to maintaining their health and the biodiversity they support.»
In closing, the Ecobrigade members shared their thoughts on how important it is to get involved in environmental protection. «Understanding and connecting with nature is the first step to protecting it,» they concluded. «These wetlands are a vital part of our ecosystem, and protecting them means protecting ourselves.»
We would like to thank the members of the Ecobrigade for their dedication and insight, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in raising awareness about the protection of our planet’s precious natural spaces.
