Celebrating Multiculturalism: A Cultural Exchange with Mia Kreca

On a recent visit, our dear friend Mia Kreca, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, conducted a wonderful cultural exchange activity with 3rd-grade elementary students from classes B and C. The session, held during their Ethics class, provided a unique opportunity for students to learn about Mia’s culture and the value of having a diverse and inclusive classroom.
Mia led the discussion in English, as she doesn’t speak Spanish, which allowed the students to practice English as a means of communication. This perfectly aligned with the goals of our English Immersion Plan, promoting language learning while exploring important cultural topics. Throughout the activity, students eagerly compared fun facts about Bosnia and Chile, reflecting on the advantages of living in a multicultural society. They shared insights about the diversity within their own school community, recognizing the rich heritage of classmates from places such as China, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Greece, Germany, Belgium, and more. This sparked meaningful conversations about the importance of inclusivity, unity, and the positive impact of diverse cultures on their daily lives.
Thanks to the support and collaboration of their head teachers, Ms. Claudia Cuevas and Ms. Daniela Matamala, the students had the chance to reflect on how different heritages enrich their lives, fostering empathy and understanding. The activity served as an excellent platform to celebrate the diversity within the classroom and beyond.
