Exploring Panem: Mariana Gonzalez’s Creative Map and Reflection

At Colegio Concepción, our book club has been deeply engaged in exploring The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and we’re excited to share a recent highlight from our activities. Mariana Gonzalez from 8th grade C, a dedicated student in the club, has brought a unique and insightful perspective to our reading through her creative project.
World-Building and Exposition:
As part of our ongoing discussions on the novel, we focused on understanding the intricate structure of Panem and the significant event of the Reaping. Mariana took this a step further by creating an elaborate map of Panem, drawing fascinating parallels between the fictional world and our real world.
Mariana’s Creative Project:
Mariana’s map not only details the layout of Panem but also creatively links each district with real-world countries. She carefully analysed the characteristics and key information of each district, providing a compelling comparison that enriches our understanding of the novel’s setting.
Discussion Highlights:
1. The Structure of Panem and Its Districts: Mariana’s map helped visualise the divisions within Panem, offering a clearer view of the dystopian society depicted in the book.
2. The Significance of the Reaping: By connecting the districts to real-world locations, Mariana’s project illuminated the underlying themes and the socio-political commentary of Collins’ work.
We invite everyone to delve into Mariana’s thoughtful reflection and explore the map she created. Her project not only showcases her creativity but also enhances our collective appreciation of The Hunger Games.
