On July 18th, Colegio Concepción held a memorable civic act, celebrating not only the commemoration of significant dates but also recognizing the outstanding achievements of our students in various competitions. This event was organised to highlight the importance of both civic awareness and extracurricular dedication.
Commemorating Important Dates
The civic act commenced with a reflection on several key dates in July, emphasising their cultural and environmental significance:
● July 3rd, International Plastic Bag Free Day: Acknowledging Chile’s pioneering efforts in banning plastic bags through Law 21.100, a crucial step towards environmental conservation.
● July 7th, International Soil Conservation Day: Highlighting the vital role of soil in sustaining life and the importance of adopting practices that promote soil health and productivity.
● July 7th, World Andean Condor Day: Emphasising the cultural and ecological importance of the Andean condor, a symbol of strength and resilience in Chilean culture.
● July 9th, Chilean Flag Day: Reflecting on the historical evolution of Chile’s national flag, a symbol of unity and patriotism representing the spirit and identity of our nation.
Recognising Student Achievements
A significant part of the event was dedicated to recognising students who represented our school in various prestigious competitions, showcasing their English proficiency and commitment to extracurricular activities. These students participated in three different instances:
1. Spelling Bee Contest at Universidad San Sebastián
2. Spelling Bee Contest at Universidad Andrés Bello
3. International Essay Contest for Young People organised by the Government of Japan
These students were guided and accompanied by Mr. Marcos Riveros, the coordinator of the English Immersion Plan. The recognition was provided alongside Mr. Riveros by Ms. Maria Patricia Jerez, the head of the Technical Pedagogical Unit.
