Colegio Concepción Pedro de Valdivia is excited to welcome you to a new school year!

Welcome back, dear students, to another exciting year at Colegio Concepcion! As the sun rises on a fresh academic adventure, the English department extends its warmest greetings to each and every one of you. Whether you are returning to familiar hallways or stepping foot on campus for the first time, this school year promises boundless opportunities for growth, discovery, and friendship.
The first weeks of the academic year is a time of anticipation and excitement as we embark on a journey of learning and exploration together. Let us start this academic year with enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination. Whether you are delving into the pages of a new textbook, collaborating on a group project, or participating in extracurricular activities, seize each moment as an opportunity to challenge yourself, broaden your horizons, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
For those transitioning to a new grade level or joining us for the first time, we understand that embarking on a new academic journey can feel both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. As we understand the start of a new school year can be hectic, the English Department and our Educational Psychologist Camila de la Fuente created this article which contains resources we think would be helpful in assisting you navigate the beginning of the school year.
Our goal is for each student to be successful and to learn, grow and inspire, together. We want students and their families to feel excitement and anticipation before the year begins and to be active and engaged in the learning. Welcome home, Colegio Concepcion family, let’s Have a Great Year!
Tips for Coming Back to School
Tips to support your child’s mentally healthy return to school.
A change in schools or returning to school after summer vacation, a holiday, or absence from school due to illness presents challenges for both students and parents/caregivers. Children typically undergo a spectrum of emotions, spanning from excitement to apprehension, fear, and occasionally, sadness. You can support your pupil through this adjustment by:

● Asking how they are feeling about returning to school. Acknowledging and validating your child’s feelings about returning to school is essential. “I hear that you have this feeling about returning to school. I can understand that feeling.” Even if you don’t feel the same way, let them know you understand and respect their emotions. This fosters open communication and trust between you and your child.
● Ask your child if they have any questions or concerns about school. Even if they seem minor to you, they can be important to them.
● Encouraging your child to remember the parts of school that they enjoy and are looking forward to the most. “I wonder what you are looking forward to about school?” “What’s something you are excited about?”
● Helping your older children to make a plan to get back to routines.
● For younger children, gradually introducing familiar routines and a schedule similar to the one used during school time can help ease the transition “Let’s practice walking to the school today” “Beginning next week, we will have an earlier bedtime, and we will wake up earlier. This will help us be ready for the start of school.”
● Gathering any needed supplies.
● Organizing social gatherings with other children from the same school is beneficial for fostering friendships and building connections.
