A British adventure: An experience promoting EFL acquisition process

During the month of July 18 students from 8th elementary to 3rd secondary level started an amazing trip to England, exploring several cities, and improving their English language skills. Embarking on a journey through England is like delving into the pages of a living history book, where the past seamlessly blends with the present.
This article recounts an adventurous voyage through some of England’s most alluring destinations: Eastbourne, London, Brighton, Oxford, and Hastings. Each place boasts its own unique charm, captivating visitors with its rich history, stunning architecture, and picturesque landscapes.
Eastbourne is a charming seaside town located on the South coast of England. Students enjoyed its beautiful beaches, the Victorian architecture, the scenic Eastbourne Pier, Beachy Head, which is a famous chalk Cliff, and a lighthouse located nearby, offering stunning views of the English Channel and the Eastbourne Bandstand, a traditional bandstand that hosts concerts and performances during the summer season.
Brighton is another coastal city known for its vibrant atmosphere. The students visited the famous Brighton Pier and explored the city’s unique shops. Brighton is also known for its diverse culture and arts scene.
London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom and offers a plethora of attractions and experiences. “The City” has a fascinating history, dating back to its founding by the Romans in AD 43. Throughout the centuries, it has been a centre of power, culture, trade, and innovation. Today, it is a global city with a thriving arts scene, world-class museums, and a diverse population.
The students visited iconic landmarks like the Houses of Parliament (with the Big Ben), the London Eye; the London Eye rotates slowly, providing a gentle and smooth ride. A full rotation takes about 30 minutes, during which visitors can see famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, and the Tower of London, among others; the Buckingham Palace, the Trafalgar square, and students also enjoyed the vibrant neighbourhoods like London Road or China Town. The River Thames flows through the heart of the city, providing a picturesque backdrop to many of its attractions.
Hastings is a historic town known for its connection to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Students enjoyed the Old Town’s charm, Fishermen’s Museum, place that provided insights into the town’s fishing heritage and maritime history. Afterwards, students vibrated with the Smugglers Adventure, which is an underground attraction that delves into the history of smuggling in the region. It’s a great place to be infused with England’s history.

Oxford is famous for its prestigious university and its marvellous architecture. The students visited the Oxford University colleges like The Magdalen College; it was founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester. The college is situated on the eastern side of the city centre, and its campus includes several monumental buildings and gardens; continuing with the Bodleian Library, and later students took a stroll through the picturesque streets. It’s a city that exudes academic excellence and culture. Oxford’s history dates back to Saxon times, and it has been an important centre of learning for centuries.

The trip lasted 30 days, allowing the students to immerse themselves in English-speaking environments, practice their language skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the English culture and history. Such experiences are incredibly enriching and memorable for students who are looking to improve their English and broaden their horizons.
