Colegio Concepción brought English Week 2026 to a close after several days dedicated to language, culture, creativity, and meaningful participation. From Monday, August 17th to Monday, August 24th, our school community experienced different activities that invited students to use English beyond the classroom and to connect the language with games, music, storytelling, spelling, culture, and shared school moments.
The week began with a special visit from our beloved school mascot, the ant, who delivered English Week stickers connected to British culture to our youngest students from Medio Mayor to 2nd grade in the Junior Area. Throughout the week, the school library also became a joyful meeting point during the 9:30 a.m. break, where students enjoyed Board Games in English, practising the language through play, teamwork, strategy, and friendly interaction.
One of the major highlights was the 3rd Inter-School Spelling Bee Competition, which brought together students from Colegio Concepción and invited schools in a fully English-speaking environment. The celebration also included the storytelling session based on The Tiger Who Came to Tea, a beloved British story that allowed our youngest students to approach English through imagination, listening, visual support, and culture. Later in the week, the English Song Festival and the British Isles Cultural Fair continued to show how language learning can be connected to creativity, identity, music, and cultural exploration.
The closing ceremony gathered students, teachers, authorities, and members of our school community to celebrate the spirit of the week. During the ceremony, Mr. Cristopher Cano, Head of the English Department, addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of continuing to promote English as a living tool for communication, learning, and participation.
A special moment of the ceremony was the theatre performance “The Interview,” written by Valentina Toro and performed by Rocío Oyarzúa and Benjamín Sáez. Through humour, misunderstandings, and two very different personalities, the play brought English to life on stage and reminded us that language can also be expressive, creative, and full of personality.
The ceremony also included a musical piano performance by Mariana Encina who added emotion to the final celebration. Their presentation offered another way to experience English Week, showing how music can bring people together and become part of a wider celebration of language, expression, and school spirit.
English Week 2026 was much more than a calendar of activities. It was an opportunity for students to communicate, create, participate, discover, and enjoy English in different spaces of school life. Its success reflects the enthusiasm of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the collaborative work of the English Department and the English Immersion Program.
