Students from Medio Mayor, Pre-Kinder and Kinder participated in a new monthly storytelling experience through the well-known story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle.
The activity was organised by the English Immersion Plan and coordinated by Mr. Marcos Riveros and Ms. Catalina Maturana, continuing the monthly storytelling experiences developed for the youngest students. Through this story, children were invited to explore colours and animals in English using a simple, repetitive, and predictable structure that allowed them to participate naturally throughout the narration.
One of the most valuable aspects of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is the way it helps young learners understand and anticipate language. As the story repeats the same question and answer pattern, students can listen, recognise, predict, and join in with confidence. This makes the experience especially appropriate for early learning, where repetition, rhythm, images, gestures, and shared participation are essential.
During the storytelling session, students observed the illustrations, identified animals and colours, and responded to simple questions such as “What colour is it?”, “What animal is this?”, and “What do you think comes next?” These moments helped children connect English with visual clues, oral interaction, and the joy of discovering what appears next in the story.
The activity also promoted important skills connected to attention, observation, confidence, and participation. By listening carefully and following the rhythm of the story, students were able to become active participants in the experience, rather than only listeners. This allowed English to appear in a warm and meaningful context, close to the way children naturally learn through stories, images, sounds, and repetition.
The session was also supported by Benjamín Sáez, and Antonia González, who joined the activity with care and enthusiasm, helping create a positive and engaging atmosphere for the youngest members of our school community.
Through storytelling experiences like this, the English Immersion Plan continues to promote early contact with English in age-appropriate and meaningful ways. In this case, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? became a joyful opportunity to connect language with colours, animals, imagination, and shared learning.
