On Thursday, November 21st, our 1st-grade students had a delightful storytelling session led by the ever-charismatic Mia Kreca, our esteemed guest from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mia shared with the students the enchanting tale of the Magic Porridge Pot, a classic Grimm’s fairy tale that she fondly recalls from her childhood in Bosnia.
The session took place in the Early Childhood Education library, where the students were transported to a world of magic and wonder through Mia’s captivating storytelling. The Magic Porridge Pot tells the story of a poor girl who discovers a magical pot that can cook endless amounts of porridge, but only when the right words are spoken. As the tale unfolds, the pot’s magic gets out of hand, leading to an amusing and thought-provoking resolution.
Throughout the session, the students were not only entertained by the story but also engaged in discussions about language, vocabulary, and listening comprehension. They shared their thoughts and insights, reflecting on the moral lessons of the story and connecting it to their own experiences. This activity allowed them to gain exposure to European folklore while practising their English language skills in a meaningful context.
We are grateful to Mia for bringing this beautiful piece of European culture to life and for inspiring our students to appreciate the art of storytelling. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn and interact with a different culture through the magic of words.
