Students from Medio Mayor, Pre-Kinder and Kinder participated in a new monthly storytelling experience through the story Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, a colourful and engaging book that invited children to explore English through repetition, participation, colours, and positive attitudes.
The activity was organised by the English Immersion Plan and coordinated by Mr. Marcos Riveros and Ms. Catalina Maturana, continuing the monthly storytelling experiences developed for the youngest students in the Parvulario. On this occasion, the storytelling sessions took place in the students’ classrooms, creating a close and familiar environment for listening, observing, and participating in English.
During the activity, children followed Pete’s journey as his white shoes changed colours along the way. Through visual support, gestures, voice expression, and simple questions such as “What colour are Pete’s shoes?”, “What colour is it?” and “Is Pete happy or sad?”, students were encouraged to anticipate, respond, and take part in the story in a natural and playful way.
Beyond the work with colours, the story also offered a meaningful message about positive attitudes. As Pete keeps walking calmly and happily despite the unexpected changes in his shoes, students were invited to recognise that small surprises or changes can also be faced with confidence, joy, and a good attitude.
The session was read by Mr. Marcos Riveros, Ms. Catalina Maturana, Benjamín Sáez, and Rocío Oyarzúa, who supported the activity with enthusiasm and care. Their participation helped create a warm storytelling atmosphere where children could enjoy the story, react to the illustrations, and experience English as part of a shared and memorable moment.
One of the most special parts of the experience came once the storytelling had finished, when Pete the Cat visited the classrooms in person. This surprise brought the story even closer to the children, turning the character they had just seen in the book into a joyful presence in their own learning space. The visit filled the rooms with excitement, smiles, and a strong sense of connection with the story.
Through experiences like this, the English Immersion Plan continues to promote early contact with English in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. Storytelling allows students to approach the language through imagination, repetition, emotions, characters, and active participation, making English part of an experience they can enjoy and remember.
We invite our school community to explore the gallery and revisit this special moment of storytelling, colours, positive attitudes, and the unforgettable visit of Pete the Cat to the Parvulario.
