As part of the COEMCO winning project “Sustainable School in Action: Eco-Fairs and Global Awareness through English,” Colegio Concepción held Eco-Fair II on August 28th at the school’s Gymnasium A. This new edition brought together sustainability, student projects, local entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, and community participation in a meaningful school experience.
Although this fair was the second eco-fair developed within the framework of the COEMCO winning project, it also marked the fifth edition of the Sustainable Fair at Colegio Concepción. In this way, the activity connected a growing school tradition with a new stage of innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and student participation, showing how sustainability continues to become part of our school identity.
The fair once again welcomed ecological artisans and entrepreneurs from the Biobío Region, who shared products, initiatives, and practices connected to sustainability, responsible consumption, recycling, creativity, and environmental care. Their presence helped students approach sustainability from real examples, showing that small choices, local projects, and community initiatives can contribute to a more conscious way of living.
This edition also included a stronger presence of student work developed in regular subject classes during the first semester and the beginning of the second semester. Students from 2nd grade Senior Area presented projects created in Technology, guided by Ms. Luisca Astete, while students from 3rd grade Senior Area shared projects developed in Biology, guided by Ms. Iowanna Maltés. Both learning processes were connected to the English Immersion Programme, allowing students to bring their classroom work into a wider school experience where sustainability, science, technology, creativity, and English communication could come together.
The activity was also supported by the ICT Team, the Ecobrigade, and the Sustainability Committee of Colegio Concepción, whose participation helped give continuity to the project and strengthen its interdisciplinary spirit. Through their involvement, the fair became more than an exhibition; it became a space where students could communicate, observe, explain, ask questions, and reflect on sustainability from different perspectives.
Throughout the day, students from all levels of the school visited the fair, exploring the stands, observing the projects, and engaging with the different proposals presented. The experience allowed the school community to see sustainability as something active and close, connected not only to environmental content, but also to creativity, innovation, citizenship, and everyday decisions.
The fair also received the visit of school authorities and local representatives, including members of the public sphere from Chiguayante and the Biobío Region. Their presence highlighted the importance of building connections between school projects, community participation, and wider conversations about sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Eco-Fair II reflects the purpose of Sustainable School in Action: to promote environmental awareness through meaningful experiences that connect students, teachers, local initiatives, English communication, science, technology, and community engagement. Each new edition of the Sustainable Fair shows that sustainability is not a single event, but a continuous path built through collaboration, learning, and shared commitment.
