Pete the Cat Joins Our Youngest Students for Storytelling

A very special visitor arrived at Colegio Concepción to surprise our youngest students during a storytelling session in the Formación Inicial library. While children from Parvulario were enjoying the story Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, Pete the Cat himself appeared in person to greet them, share the moment, and celebrate the joy of reading together.
The visit was organised by the English Immersion Plan, led by Mr. Marcos Riveros, as part of the school’s ongoing efforts to bring English closer to students through stories, imagination, music, and meaningful experiences. The arrival of this life-size Pete the Cat character is a new resource that will help create memorable moments for children, connecting English with affection, play, and literature from their earliest years at school.
During the session, students were listening to one of Pete’s most beloved stories, where the famous blue cat walks along in his white shoes, sings his song, and keeps moving forward even when things do not go exactly as expected. Through colours, repetition, rhythm, and visual support, the story invited children to participate, predict, repeat, and enjoy English in a natural and playful way.
The surprise became even more meaningful when Pete entered the library and saw that students were reading his stories. The children welcomed him with excitement, smiles, and curiosity, creating a warm moment where literature came to life before their eyes. Pete was very happy to see that his books were part of the storytelling experiences developed at Colegio Concepción.
This activity also reflects the importance of early contact with English through experiences that are close to children’s interests and emotions. When students listen to stories, interact with characters, observe images, repeat familiar phrases, and take part in shared moments, language becomes something meaningful, memorable, and joyful.
Through this special visit, the English Immersion Plan continues to strengthen storytelling as a key experience for our youngest learners. Pete the Cat’s arrival reminds us that stories can open doors to imagination, confidence, and communication, especially when children feel that the characters they love can step out of the books and become part of their school life.
We invite our school community to explore the gallery and revisit this joyful moment when Pete the Cat visited Colegio Concepción and celebrated reading, English, and imagination with our youngest students.
