The Family Book: A Storytelling Session about Love, Family, and Belonging

Our youngest students from Medio Mayor, Pre-Kinder, and Kinder took part in one of the monthly storytelling sessions held at the Parvulario, as part of the ongoing experiences organised by the English Immersion Plan for this level.
These sessions, led by Mr. Marcos Riveros and Ms. Catalina Maturana, create meaningful spaces where children engage with stories, language, emotions, and imagination in a natural and playful way.
The story chosen for this occasion was The Family Book by Todd Parr, a warm and colourful story that celebrates the many different ways families can be. Through simple language and bright illustrations, the book invited students to recognise that families may look different, live differently, or have different traditions, but they are all connected by love, care, and support.
This session was especially meaningful, as the topic of family was deeply explored during May at our school. Through the story, children were able to connect what they had been learning and talking about with a literary experience in English, reinforcing the idea that stories can help us understand our own lives and the people around us.
The storytelling session was supported by Mariana González from 10th C, Rocío Oyarzúa from 10th A, Antonia González from 12th A, and Axel Carrasco from 10th D, students from the Senior Area who participated with care and enthusiasm. Their presence helped create a warm connection between older students and the youngest members of our school community.
Throughout the session, children listened attentively and participated respectfully, engaging with the story in a calm and joyful way. These moments are especially valuable in Parvulario, where storytelling allows children to approach English through affection, repetition, images, gestures, and shared emotion.
Through these storytelling experiences, the English Immersion Plan continues to promote the use of English in meaningful and age-appropriate contexts, where language becomes a tool for imagination, communication, emotional connection, and early literary discovery.
We invite you to explore the gallery and revisit this special moment of storytelling, family, and shared learning.
