As part of the English Immersion Plan, students from 6th grade B at Colegio Concepción participated in a dynamic and engaging session based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
This experience was developed through the articulation between the English Immersion program, led by Mr. Marcos Riveros, and the Spanish Language class guided by Ms. Daniela Araya, allowing students to approach literature through an integrated perspective that connects language, reading, and interdisciplinary learning.
Throughout the session, students reflected on the chapters they had read, identifying key events, characters, and emerging mysteries in the story. A central element of the class was the use of the reading log, a personal tool that encouraged students to record ideas, reflections, questions, and new vocabulary, strengthening their comprehension and critical thinking.
To complement this reflective work, students participated in a STEM activity inspired by the story. Drawing from the moment when Hermione attempts to reveal a hidden message in Tom Riddle’s diary, they recreated the experience through a scientific experiment with invisible ink, discovering how science can explain phenomena that may initially seem magical.
The session concluded with a guided reflection, where students connected the experiment with the story and explored the relationship between fiction and science. This allowed them to deepen their understanding of the text while developing curiosity, observation, and analytical skills.
This class marked the first implementation of this experience, with 6th grade A and C soon to take part in the same activity. Through initiatives like this, the school continues to promote meaningful learning experiences where literature becomes a bridge between subjects, and where English is integrated through culture, storytelling, and exploration.
