On Friday, March 13th, the school library became the setting for an engaging learning experience as 5th-grade students from class C participated in a special bingo activity that brought together English and Mathematics in an interactive way.
Organised within the framework of the English Immersion Plan, the activity emerged from the collaboration between the English Immersion program and the Elementary Mathematics subject, led respectively by Mr. Marcos Riveros and Mr. Rodrigo Venegas. The experience was particularly meaningful for this group, as 5th grade C is a new class in our school, giving students the opportunity to experience first-hand how English becomes part of everyday learning at Colegio Concepción.
Unlike a traditional bingo game, this version required students to remain attentive to the numbers, as English was the main language used throughout the activity. Whenever two or more students reached bingo at the same time, an additional challenge determined the winner: solving a Maths question. These moments added extra excitement and kept everyone attentive and eager to participate.
Throughout the activity, the library was filled with enthusiasm as students calculated, discussed answers, and used English naturally while enjoying the game. As with any game, sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, but the main goal was to enjoy the experience together. The activity also offered a moment for reflection, encouraging students to recognize and manage their emotions while participating respectfully and positively.
Experiences like this show how combining subjects can transform learning into something dynamic and meaningful. Initiatives like this reflect the spirit of the English Immersion Plan, where English becomes a natural tool for communication across different areas of learning.
