This Thursday 27 and Friday 28 November, the 6th grade A and B students of Colegio Concepción completed an important milestone in their English learning journey: the international exam Cambridge English Qualifications: A2 Flyers. This evaluation, administered in collaboration with the Instituto Chileno Britanico de Cultura de Concepción, represents the final stage of the English Immersion pathway that our students have developed consistently over the past years.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, students prepared through multiple learning experiences designed to build confidence and familiarity with the exam. These included work with the official Cambridge book Fun for Flyers, practice sessions in the computer lab using interactive activities, simulations replicating the real Cambridge format, and targeted work in the four English skills. All these opportunities strengthened their communicative abilities and ensured that they approached the exam with confidence and readiness.
The Cambridge A2 Flyers exam evaluates students through three components:
● Listening: understanding instructions, descriptions, and everyday situations.
● Reading & Writing: reading short texts, identifying key information, and producing simple written responses.
● Speaking: a one-to-one interaction with a certified Cambridge examiner, where students describe images, answer questions, and communicate naturally in English.
Hosting this international exam at our school is a significant achievement for the community. It provides students with access to a globally recognised qualification without leaving their familiar environment, helping reduce anxiety and allowing them to demonstrate their abilities with greater confidence. Having the Cambridge exam on site also highlights the school’s commitment to offering real English experiences that connect students to international standards and authentic communication.
For our students, sitting the Flyers exam is much more than completing a test. It marks the culmination of years of systematic work within the English Immersion Plan, validating the skills they have built, the effort they have invested, and the communicative confidence they have developed. This experience accompanies them beyond the classroom, opening doors to new opportunities and reinforcing the value of perseverance and learning.
