As the final project of this year’s Ecobrigade and ICT extracurricular classes, a group of students and teachers carried out a meaningful environmental action in Cerro La Virgen, one of the emblematic hills of Concepción known for its viewpoints and natural surroundings. Invited by a member of our team, the group visited a nearby lookout to appreciate the landscape, reflect on local environmental challenges, and participate in a hands-on activity connected to caring for the territory.
Upon arriving at the viewpoint, students were surprised to find a considerable amount of litter scattered across the area. Instead of feeling discouraged, they immediately transformed the visit into a collective cleanup effort. Working together, they collected waste, sorted materials, and restored the space, demonstrating responsibility, environmental awareness, and a genuine desire to protect the places that form part of our city.
After completing the cleanup, the student’s family generously invited the group to their home in Cerro La Virgen to share a burger meal as a gesture of appreciation for the work done. This moment of community and gratitude allowed everyone to relax, enjoy a warm meal together, and celebrate the closing of the extracurricular year in a welcoming, familiar environment.
This activity marked the conclusion of both extracurricular programs, which throughout the year explored environmental stewardship, digital tools, and community involvement. Ending the cycle with an action that benefited a local natural site helped students connect their learning with the geography of Concepción and understand how individual and collective efforts can positively impact shared spaces.
The experience in Cerro La Virgen became not only an outdoor learning opportunity, but also a meaningful moment of connection, teamwork, and celebration. The students’ commitment reminds us of the importance of creating real experiences where learning extends beyond the classroom and strengthens our ties with the community around us.
Colegio Concepción acknowledges the dedication of all students involved and extends heartfelt appreciation to the families and teachers who supported this valuable closing activity.
