Our 3rd-grade students (A, B, and C) embarked on the second phase of their Ancient Rome project — a wonderful blend of Social Studies, English, and creativity! Organised by their Social Studies class with Ms. María Luisa Díaz and Mr. Marcos Riveros from the English Immersion Program, this part of the project brought history to life through storytelling, costumes, and even food.
In this stage, the highlight was an interactive storytelling session led by Mr. Riveros, who narrated the legendary tale of Romulus and Remus, the mythical twin brothers whose destiny led to the founding of Rome. Students followed their journey from being rescued by a she-wolf to building a city that would later become one of the greatest empires in history. (We’ve included the full story in case you’d like to read it!)
But the storytelling wasn’t all. Before diving into the legend, our students dressed up as Romans by turning bed sheets into togas and proudly stepping into character. The classroom turned into a little Rome for the day!
To end the activity, we honoured the old proverb: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Students enjoyed a degustation inspired by Ancient Roman food, tasting olives, bread, olive oil, and grapes. It was wonderful to see them wearing their togas and enjoying this cultural experience together.
The best part? The entire project was conducted in English! Thanks to the English Immersion Program, students had the chance to practise authentic communication in a second language while learning about history and culture. This multicultural and communicative approach is at the heart of our program, helping students expand their skills in meaningful, engaging contexts.
As we close this second stage, it’s clear that the Ancient Rome project has been an exciting journey of learning and creativity. From colourful panels to live storytelling and cultural tasting, our students have truly explored Rome in all its dimensions.
