Book Club Students Explore Love and Conflict in Shadowhunters: City of Ashes Through Letters to Clary

In our ongoing Book Club journey with Shadowhunters: City of Ashes, two of our dedicated students from 3rd grade secondary level Class B, Catalina and Valentina Oyanadel, have ventured deep into the emotional complexities of the characters by writing heartfelt letters to Clary Fray, one of the central figures in the series. The letters are written from the perspectives of Jace and Simon, both of whom love Clary but find themselves in difficult and tense circumstances.
Catalina and Valentina’s letters allow readers to explore the inner conflict faced by both Jace and Simon as they navigate their feelings for Clary while being bound by the challenges of their world. Through their writing, the students delve into the complexities of love, loyalty, and sacrifice—central themes of the book.
One letter, written from Jace’s perspective, reveals his intense love for Clary, while also confronting the emotional turmoil and difficult decisions that their bond brings. The second letter, from Simon’s perspective, captures his quieter yet deep love for Clary, torn between friendship and the pain of unrequited affection.
We invite you to read these heartfelt letters and experience the emotional depth and complexity of these characters. Catalina and Valentina’s thoughtful reflections not only enrich their understanding of Shadowhunters: City of Ashes but also engage with the universal themes of love, sacrifice, and the choices that define us.
We are incredibly proud of Catalina and Valentina for their insightful work and look forward to more creative and engaging activities as we continue our exploration of the Shadowhunters world.
