Exploring the Shadowhunter Universe: Our Book Club’s Creative Adventures

Our Book Club continues to thrive as students from 1st to 3rd grade high school dive into exciting, thought-provoking literature. Our 3rd grade B students, Catalina and Valentina Oyanadel are fully immersed in the world of Shadowhunters: City of Ashes, the second book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, and this month, the students engaged in two creative activities to deepen their connection with the text..
First, they mapped out the complex relationships between characters, debated moral dilemmas. This allowed them to visualize the intricate dynamics between the characters and the fantastical elements of the story, sparking lively discussions and creative expression.
The second activity involved summarizing the chapters they’ve read so far, highlighting key elements of the chapters and selecting a quote that caught their attention. Catalina and Valentina then presented their summaries during our session, where we discussed the key themes and analyzed the selected quotes. This activity served as an excellent way to refresh our memories, reinforce understanding, and create a lasting impact of the reading. The focus was on communication, in line with the goals of the English Immersion Plan, using English as a natural, familiar medium for expression and discussion.
These activities not only sparked creativity and critical thinking, but also helped reinforce the reading in a meaningful and interactive way, in line with our English Immersion Plan, they have allowed the students to connect deeply with the text, while also honing their language skills in a meaningful and interactive way.
We’re excited to continue watching these students grow as readers, thinkers, and storytellers. Stay tuned for more updates as they dive deeper into the world of the Shadowhunters
