Engaging Minds: A Successful Debate Cycle Highlights English Week

On Tuesday, August 29th, our library was buzzing with energy as 4th-grade high school students took part in an enlightening Debate Cycle, marking another exciting event in our English Week celebrations. The cycle was a fantastic opportunity for our young debaters to showcase their skills and engage in thought-provoking discussions on a variety of topics—all conducted in English!
A Musical Prelude
The event began on a high note with a beautiful musical performance by María Victoria Carrasco, who captivated the audience with a violin piece. This live music added a special touch to the event, setting a serene and inspiring tone for the debates that followed.
A Platform for Young Voices
Our students, including Wilfred Cox, Paula Sandoval, Valentina Vergara, Amalia Bustos, Belen Oyanadel, Catalina Muñoz, Gracia Quirolo, and Claudia Diaz, tackled important and relevant subjects with impressive oratory skills and critical thinking. The debate topics were:
• Democracy and Social Justice
• Democracy and Citizen Participation
• Democracy and Human Rights
These topics provided a rich ground for discussion, allowing students to explore complex issues and articulate their opinions with clarity and conviction.
An Inspiring Experience
The debates were judged by a distinguished panel consisting of Luis Gonzalez, Claudio Estrada, Valentina Oyarzo, and Marcos Riveros. Their insightful feedback and encouragement added to the experience, making the event even more enriching.
Celebrating Our Students’ Achievements
We are incredibly proud of our 4th-grade high school students for their hard work and dedication. Their participation in the Debate Cycle was a key moment in English Week, demonstrating their growing confidence and ability in both public speaking and English proficiency.
Even though English Week has come to a close, we will continue to share highlights from the week’s events. Stay tuned for more updates and celebrate the achievements of our talented students!
Thank you to everyone involved for making the Debate Cycle a memorable experience for all!
